Oregon has operated under Democratic trifecta control — governor plus both legislative chambers — for most of the last 25–30 years. No Republican has won the governorship since 1982. This long-term one-party environment has shaped everything, including how elections are run.

The 1998 Mail-In Revolution

In 1998, Oregon voters passed Ballot Measure 60 by a wide 69%–31% margin. The measure made the state the first in America to conduct all primary and general elections exclusively by mail. What began as an experiment in convenience became permanent policy.

Turnout rose modestly in many cycles, and official reviews have consistently shown extremely low rates of proven fraud — on the order of 0.00006% across tens of millions of ballots. Supporters rightly point to high participation and ease of voting.

But the same one-party dominance that passed and protected the system also created a structural reality: Once mail-in became the only option, reforming or adding safeguards became politically difficult inside Oregon. The party in power had little incentive to tighten rules that benefited its coalition.

Yet 22 states plus Washington, D.C. continue to do exactly that — and American taxpayers are footing a bill estimated at more than $1 billion every year.

The Law on the Books: 8 U.S.C. § 1623

In 1996, Congress passed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA). One key provision — 8 U.S.C. § 1623 — is explicit and unambiguous:

“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.”

This section took effect for benefits provided on or after July 1, 1998. The intent was simple and fair: public higher education benefits funded by American taxpayers should go first to American citizens, legal residents, and those who follow the legal immigration process — not to individuals who entered the country illegally.

The law does not ban all benefits to illegal aliens. It specifically prohibits giving them preferential in-state tuition rates based on state residency unless the same rates are also offered to U.S. citizens who live outside the state. Many states have tried to circumvent this by basing eligibility on high school attendance or other criteria instead of “residence,” but the federal prohibition remains clear.

Despite this clear federal prohibition, 22 states and the District of Columbia still offer in-state tuition rates to individuals who entered the country illegally.

Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who fled war in her homeland, was brutally stabbed to death on a Charlotte light rail train. The man accused of her murder had 14 prior violent offenses. Court records show he was competent enough to receive welfare, public housing, EBT benefits, free public transit — and to acquire the weapon that ended her life.

Yet after allegedly slicing her throat and reportedly bragging about killing “that white girl,” his defense now claims he is incompetent to face the death penalty.

Commentator Benny Johnson captured the outrage felt by millions:

“This animal was ‘competent’ enough to vote… competent enough to get welfare… competent enough to acquire a murder weapon… But now that he’s facing the death penalty he’s miraculously ‘incompetent’…”

Yes, race-based districting is now unconstitutional.

Yes, Louisiana’s second majority-Black congressional district was thrown out.

But here’s the part almost no one is saying out loud:

Democrats do not have a House majority without those court-ordered racial maps.

For decades, federal courts — using the Voting Rights Act — forced Southern states to draw congressional districts based primarily on race. These “majority-minority” districts were engineered to elect Democrats. Without them, many of those seats disappear.

The numbers are devastating:

• A dozen of the Democrats’ current seats exist only because federal courts forced states to draw racial maps.

• Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina — every one has at least one Democrat seat created by court-ordered racial engineering.

• The Democrats’ House margin is just four seats.

• SCOTUS just made 12 of their 213 seats legally redrawnable.

Republican-led legislatures don’t need new voters — they need a redistricting committee and a Tuesday afternoon.

The Meme That Perfectly Captures the Hypocrisy

This image says it all.

Democrats have spent decades performing political CPR on racism — not to kill it, but to keep it alive so they can keep using it. They scream “Don’t you die on me you bastard! We still need to use you!” every time someone tries to move past race-based policies.

That is exactly what this SCOTUS ruling exposed.

For years, Democrats have claimed to be the party fighting racism. Yet they are the ones who fought hardest to keep race-based districting — the practice of drawing congressional maps based on skin color to guarantee Democratic seats. They packed Black voters into a handful of heavily Democratic districts so they could win more seats overall.

This is not fighting racism.
This is using racism as a political tool.

A Brief History of How We Got Here

After the Civil War, Southern states used poll taxes, literacy tests, and violence to stop Black Americans from voting. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed to end that evil chapter. It was one of the greatest civil rights victories in American history.

In the 1980s and 1990s, courts interpreted the VRA to require states to draw as many “majority-minority” districts as possible. This led to a massive wave of racial gerrymandering. States were pressured — often by federal judges — to pack Black voters into a small number of heavily Democratic districts.

The result was predictable:

• Black voters were packed into a few safe Democratic seats.

• Surrounding districts became more Republican.

• Democrats gained safe seats in the South — not because of voter preference, but because of racial engineering.

This is the system Democrats are now desperately defending.

The Politicians Who Benefited for Decades — And Who Now Face Real Competition

Many Americans have no idea how some of these long-serving Democrats actually got into power. They were not elected in fair, color-blind districts. Their seats were created by federal courts to guarantee Democratic wins.

Here are the clearest examples:

Rep. Jim Clyburn (South Carolina – 6th District)
In Congress since 1993. South Carolina’s only Democratic seat for over 30 years. His district was heavily shaped by VRA requirements. In 2022, Clyburn’s own staff worked with Republican mapmakers to protect his seat — even if it diluted Black voting power elsewhere in the state (as reported by ProPublica). He has been one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress largely because of this engineered map.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (Mississippi – 2nd District)
In Congress since 1993. The only Democrat representing Mississippi. His district is the state’s only majority-Black congressional district and has been protected by the Voting Rights Act for decades. Without that protection, Mississippi would likely have zero Democratic House members.

Rep. Terri Sewell (Alabama – 7th District)
In Congress since 2011. Her district is majority-Black and has been repeatedly protected by federal courts. She has been one of the loudest voices defending these maps. If the old system ends, her seat becomes competitive for the first time in over a decade.

Rep. Troy Carter (Louisiana – 2nd District)
Elected in 2021. Represents the New Orleans area in a majority-Black district. He benefited from the old VRA map that guaranteed Democratic control of that seat.

Rep. Cleo Fields (Louisiana – 6th District)
Elected in 2024 under the court-ordered second majority-Black district that the Supreme Court just struck down. His seat is now directly on the chopping block because of the ruling.

These five members alone have held power for a combined more than 100 years in Congress — not because they won fair elections in competitive districts, but because federal courts forced states to draw racial maps that guaranteed their victory.

This is why so many people are shocked when they hear the truth:
These seats were never really “won” in the traditional sense. They were assigned by judges.

The Democratic Argument — And Why It’s False

Democrats are claiming this ruling is an attack on minority voting rights. They say without race-based districts, Black voters will lose power.

This argument is false.

The Voting Rights Act was passed to stop discrimination against Black voters — not to guarantee proportional representation by race. The Constitution does not promise any group a certain number of seats based on skin color.

Packing Black voters into a few heavily Democratic districts actually reduces their overall influence. It maximizes the number of seats Democrats win, but it minimizes Black voters’ ability to affect outcomes in the rest of the state.

True fairness means drawing districts based on where people actually live — not on race. Every other ethnic group in America competes without race-based districts engineered for them. Black Americans deserve the same color-blind system.

What the Bible and the Founding Documents Actually Say

The Bible commands us “Love thy neighbor as yourself” — a foundational principle repeated throughout Scripture (Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:27, Romans 13:9, Galatians 5:14, James 2:8, and many more times in spirit and teaching). Jesus Himself said this is one of the two greatest commandments.

The Declaration of Independence declares:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…”

The 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection under the law for every citizen.

When we put race aside and treat every American as an individual — equal before the law — we are living out both the biblical command and the American founding principle.

The old system of racial gerrymandering did the opposite. It treated citizens differently based on skin color to achieve political outcomes. That is not love. That is not equality. That is using race as a political weapon.

What This Means for 2026

If these court-created racial maps are struck down across the South, then:

• Louisiana redraws

• Alabama redraws

• Georgia redraws

• North Carolina redraws

• South Carolina redraws

When that happens, the Democratic House majority will be exposed as a courtroom creation, not the will of the people.

The 2026 midterms were just decided 6-3 — six months before Election Day.

How to recognize if you’re falling into it

• Feeling morally superior while being hateful or divisive

• Rejecting facts that don’t fit your emotional narrative

Picture a working family in a small town anywhere across America — sitting at the dinner table after a long day. The parents scroll through the news: another government shutdown threat, another border crisis, another election integrity bill stalled. One parent says, “They finally passed something to protect kids online.” The other replies, “Yeah, but did you see they voted to keep their own harassment payouts secret again?” The kids feel the frustration in the room. Trust in Washington isn’t just low — it’s gone. This isn’t one family’s story. It’s millions of us watching both parties put themselves first while real problems for real people pile up.

Here’s the pattern that’s hard to ignore.

Congress has quietly paid out more than $17 million in taxpayer-funded settlements for workplace disputes — including sexual harassment and discrimination — over the past two decades. The money comes from us, not their personal pockets. Yet when lawmakers had the chance to release the names and details (while still protecting victims), the vast majority — 357 members from both parties — voted against transparency. Only a handful, like Rep. Thomas Massie, stood up for the public’s right to know. The records stay sealed. The “slush fund” stays protected.

At the same time, Congress drags its feet on issues the American people actually want fixed. Take the SAVE America Act (also known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act). It’s simple, commonsense legislation requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. Polls show overwhelming bipartisan support among everyday voters who want secure elections. The House has passed it — twice. Yet in the Senate, it’s been blocked. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has repeatedly said “the votes aren’t there” for the procedural moves needed to force a real debate or overcome the filibuster. President Trump called it a top priority. The American people — on both sides — have made their voices clear. But Congress won’t deliver.

This isn’t isolated. Lawmakers routinely exempt themselves or water down rules the rest of us must follow:

• Insider stock trading: Bills to fully ban members, spouses, and staff from trading individual stocks keep getting weakened or stalled, even though the STOCK Act was supposed to fix this years ago.

• Pensions and perks: Generous retirement benefits and health plans that most Americans could only dream of, while they debate cutting or delaying help for veterans, seniors, and working families.

• Campaign finance and dark money: Limits exist in theory, but loopholes let big donors and nonprofits flood the system — the same forces we’ve exposed before at outlets like Courier Newsroom.

Both parties share the blame. This isn’t about left versus right. It’s about Washington versus the rest of America. They vote to protect their own power, secrecy, and financial advantages while election security, border safety, and everyday accountability take a back seat.
