Open Society vs. Closed Society: Two Visions for the Future — Which One Secures Our Kids’ Tomorrow?

The National American Citizen Association exists because America stands at a crossroads between two competing philosophies: the Open Society and the Closed Society. One billionaire has spent more than $32 billion trying to tilt the scales toward the first. The question is not whether open societies sound noble — they do. The question is whether they deliver security, prosperity, and freedom for American families, or whether they create the very chaos they claim to solve.
We lay out both visions plainly, measure their real-world successes and failures with documented facts, and ask the honest question: Are millions of well-meaning people being drawn to an ideal that, in practice, weakens the very nation that protects them?
What Is an “Open Society”?
The term comes from philosopher Karl Popper (1902–1994), who survived fascism and communism. In his 1945 book The Open Society and Its Enemies, Popper argued that the healthiest societies are those that:
Allow criticism, debate, and peaceful change.
Reject absolute rulers or “perfect” ideologies.
Protect individual rights and minority voices.
Keep power transparent and accountable.
George Soros adopted Popper’s idea as his life’s mission. Through the Open Society Foundations, he funds policies that prioritize:
Open borders and high migration.
Reduced incarceration and progressive criminal justice.
Expanded mail-in voting with fewer ID requirements.
Global institutions over national sovereignty.
The stated goal: prevent tyranny by keeping societies fluid, diverse, and “open” to new ideas and people.
What Is a “Closed Society”?
A closed society, in Popper’s and Soros’s framing, is one that:
Emphasizes strong national identity and borders.
Enforces strict rule of law and traditional order.
Limits rapid cultural or demographic change to protect cohesion.
Puts citizens of that nation first in policy decisions.
America’s Founders designed a constitutional republic — a closed system in the sense that power is limited by law, citizenship is defined, and the people (not global elites) are sovereign. It is “closed” to tyranny because it is bound by the Constitution; it is open to opportunity because it rewards work, merit, and assimilation.
The Crucial “Ah Ha” Moment
A closed society under a dictator (like North Korea) is tyrannical — one man’s arbitrary will rules everything. That is evil.
But a closed society under the U.S. Constitution is the opposite. The Constitution is deliberately “closed” to unlimited change. It sets permanent guardrails: limited government, secure borders, equal application of the law, and individual rights that no politician or billionaire can erase. Those fixed rules are what make liberty possible. They protect us from tyranny.
Soros’s “Open Society” wants to pry those guardrails open. He has said repeatedly that national sovereignty, strong borders, and traditional law-and-order are obstacles to his vision.
This is why you see coordinated “No Kings” protests against President Trump — while the very same politicians who scream “No Kings!” gave a three-minute standing ovation to a literal king.
On April 28, 2026, King Charles III addressed a joint session of Congress. Democrats who champion Open Society ideals stood and applauded enthusiastically for the British monarch.
Yet earlier this year, during President Trump’s address to the nation, when he asked members of Congress to stand if they agreed that “the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” nearly every Democrat remained seated.
The same lawmakers who refused to stand for Angel Moms who lost children to illegal immigrant crime, or for a child battling cancer, or for the simple principle that American citizens come first — gave a prolonged, thunderous ovation to an actual king in their chamber.
That is not hypocrisy. That is the Open Society philosophy in action.
Alex Soros and Huma Abedin: The Next Generation of Power
In 2023, George Soros handed control of the $32+ billion Open Society Foundations to his son, Alex Soros. In June 2025, Alex married Huma Abedin — Hillary Clinton’s longtime aide, former vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, and ex-wife of Anthony Weiner.
This marriage creates a direct bridge between the Soros/Open Society network and the highest levels of the Democratic Party and Clinton political machine. It is no longer just one man’s vision — it is now a multi-generational, deeply embedded political operation.
Measuring Success and Failure — The Record
Open Society Approach (Soros-funded policies in practice):
Crime: In cities where Soros-backed progressive DAs took office, homicides rose sharply in the years following (FBI data and major-city reports show 14 of the top 30 murder cities saw spikes post-2016 reforms). OSF calls this correcting “systemic bias.” Families in those neighborhoods call it failed safety.
Borders: Record illegal crossings (CBP data) correlate with policies funded by open-society networks. Humanitarian aid is real, but so is strain on schools, hospitals, and wages for working-class Americans.
Elections: Heavy funding for mail-in expansion and opposition to voter ID has coincided with declining public trust (Gallup and Rasmussen polls show historic lows in election confidence).
Successes claimed: Greater diversity, reduced incarceration for non-violent offenses, more global cooperation.
Closed Society / Constitution-First Approach (America’s historical model):
Successes: Post-WWII America (strong borders, assimilation, rule of law) built the world’s largest middle class, defeated fascism and communism, and became the destination for millions who wanted freedom within a defined nation. Crime rates fell dramatically from the 1990s to 2010s under tougher enforcement.
Failures when taken to extremes: Authoritarian closed societies (North Korea, historical communist states) stagnate and oppress. America has never been that — our Constitution prevents it.
The data shows a clear pattern: When open-society policies are applied at scale without strong guardrails, measurable declines in public safety, border control, and trust in institutions follow. When Constitution-first policies are followed, stability and opportunity rise.
Why Do Good People Support the Open Society Vision?
Most supporters are not villains — they are moved by compassion:
They see suffering abroad and want to help.
They believe diversity strengthens us (a belief rooted in America’s melting-pot success when paired with assimilation).
They fear strong borders equal racism or isolationism.
They trust elite institutions and global NGOs more than their own government.
Many are being misled by framing that presents “open” as the only moral choice and “closed” as hateful or backward. Billion-dollar media and academic networks (some funded by the same circles) amplify this narrative while downplaying real costs to working families, schools, and neighborhoods. Idealism is beautiful — until it collides with reality and leaves children less safe in their own cities.
Soros’s Other Major Influences
Media Funding: Hundreds of millions to ProPublica, Poynter Institute/PolitiFact, NPR, The Guardian, and “disinformation” networks that shape narratives on crime, borders, and elections.
Education Funding: $500 million pledge to Bard College (2021), hundreds of millions to Central European University, and major support for the Open Society University Network to train future leaders in open-society values.
Eastern Europe & Color Revolutions: Documented funding for opposition movements in Serbia (2000), Georgia’s Rose Revolution (2003), Ukraine’s Orange Revolution (2004), and later efforts — framed as democracy promotion but widely viewed as external regime-change operations.

Popper himself warned against utopian openness that destroys the institutions needed to protect it.
